To develop competencies, facilitate entry in the labor market and broaden opportunities for the needy youth of the State of São Paulo. These are the main goals of the Education for Work Program (PET), which has just started a new edition. The venture is being promoted by SENAC, Instituto Alana, Instituto Votorantim and Votorantim Metais in the outskirts of São Paulo city.
The outcome of the partnership is reflected in the numbers. About 630 young people, aging from 15 to 18 years old, have already been benefited by the program. Besides, 63% of them have gotten their first job. For Ricardo Barbosa, Votorantim Metais’ Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility, this venture strengthens the Group role as a propelling agent for better social responsibility practices.
Mr. Barbosa also states that Votorantim Metais’ support, through the São Miguel Paulista plant, is aligned with the company’s vision. “We promote and support ventures that contribute for the development of communities where our plants are located”, he highlights.
Each PET edition lasts for six months and has a course load of 330 hours. The course is open to young people who are attending or have finished the 9th year of primary school. At Votorantim Metais, six employees have been hired after taking part in the program.
